pp-jone
|2026-07-24

This Dragon Traveler Mage tier list ranks the best Mage Luminaries available in the Global version in July 2026. Mages are commonly used for area damage, crowd control, elemental reactions and special team mechanics, but their performance can change sharply depending on faction bonuses, teammates and investment level.

SS Tier

Poseidon

Poseidon

Poseidon remains the safest Mage investment for players who want one character with both damage and utility. She performs well across different game modes instead of requiring one narrow team setup.

Her kit combines strong damage with defensive utility and can prevent allies from dying, giving her more value than a Mage focused only on raw numbers. Current Global rankings place her at the top of the Mage class, while other recent evaluations continue to rate her highly in both PvE and PvP.

Poseidon is especially useful for accounts that need crowd control and survivability without sacrificing a damage slot. If resources are limited and you already own her, she is the first Mage worth building.

S+ Tier

Talos

Talos

Talos is one of the strongest newer Mages in the Global version. Her main advantage is action efficiency: she can act early, perform parts of her rotation without consuming normal Mana and deal high sustained damage.

That makes her dangerous in both PvE and PvP, where taking action before the opponent or before a difficult enemy mechanic can decide the battle. Recent evaluations rate her S+ in both modes, while broader July tier lists place her among the best characters in the game.

Talos is the best alternative to Poseidon for players who want a more aggressive Mage. She deserves heavy investment, although the exact value of additional copies still depends on the rest of the account.

Vermilion Bird

Vermilion Bird

Vermilion Bird has a very high ceiling but depends more heavily on team construction. She becomes much stronger when paired with allies capable of triggering the elemental reactions required by her kit.

In the right elemental lineup, she can significantly raise the team’s total damage and provide powerful AoE pressure. Without those supporting characters, she is less universal than Poseidon or Talos. Recent rankings rate her especially highly in PvE, while her PvP performance remains strong but more team-dependent.

Build Vermilion Bird if you are already developing an Elemental Echo or another compatible reaction-based team. New players without her core partners should not assume that she will immediately perform at full strength.

S Tier

Gabriell

Gabriell

Gabriell is a strong Mage with enough damage and utility to remain useful in both major modes. Her main limitation is that she may need additional star upgrades before her complete kit begins to feel as powerful as expected.

At low investment, she can seem weaker than her ranking suggests. Once properly developed, however, she becomes a reliable long-term Mage and performs particularly well in PvP. Recent evaluations place her around S in PvE and S+ in PvP.

Gabriell is worth building, but Poseidon, Talos and Vermilion Bird generally offer greater immediate priority.

A Tier

Character

Main Strength

Main Limitation

Gullveig

Healing suppression and HP-draining pressure

More situational than top Mages

Nanalie

Strong AoE damage and cooldown synergy

Fragile and easier to eliminate

Melina

Dependable general damage

Limited burst and area coverage

Gullveig is the best Mage in this group when healing reduction matters. Her ability to pressure enemy HP while suppressing recovery can be extremely useful against sustain-heavy encounters, although she is not equally valuable in every stage.

Gullveig

Nanalie can produce high AoE damage and benefits from cooldown support, but her glass-cannon nature makes defensive teammates important. She is better in PvE than in PvP, where opponents can punish her lack of durability.

Nanalie

Melina is a solid early and mid-game damage dealer. She lacks the area damage and explosive output of higher-ranked Mages, so players should avoid overinvesting merely because she is obtained early.

Melina

B Tier

Faust

Faust

Faust is usable, particularly in PvE, but she becomes available after players have already had access to stronger Mage options. She can fill an empty damage slot, though she rarely justifies replacing a developed top-tier Mage.

Telperion

Telperion

Telperion has row-based AoE potential and can perform better inside the correct elemental team. Her damage is less consistent because parts of her output depend on chance, making her unreliable in difficult battles where every action matters.

Cleopatra

Cleopatra

Cleopatra revolves around summoned-unit synergy. Her current problem is not that her concept is useless, but that the Global roster does not yet provide enough ideal partners to make the strategy consistently competitive. She may improve when more summon-focused Luminaries arrive.

C Tier

Cerberus

Cerberus

Cerberus currently lacks the damage, utility and reliable team value needed to compete with other Mages. Both her PvE and PvP evaluations remain low, so resources spent on her provide limited long-term returns.

Use Cerberus only as a temporary option when your account has no better Mage.

Which Mage Should You Build First?

For general use, prioritize:

  1. Poseidon for the best balance of damage, control and defensive utility.
  2. Talos for early actions, efficient rotations and high damage.
  3. Vermilion Bird for elemental-reaction teams.
  4. Gabriell when you can afford the star investment.
  5. Gullveig or Nanalie as situational PvE alternatives.

The lower-ranked Mages can still clear content when properly developed, but Dragon Traveler requires a large amount of progression material. Building one excellent Mage is normally more efficient than spreading resources across several average options.

Final Verdict

Poseidon is the best all-around Mage in Dragon Traveler, while Talos offers the strongest aggressive alternative. Vermilion Bird can reach a similarly high ceiling in a properly constructed elemental team, and Gabriell remains a dependable investment after receiving enough upgrades.

Gullveig, Nanalie and Melina are usable alternatives, but they should not receive priority over the top four. Faust, Telperion and Cleopatra are situational choices, while Cerberus is currently the Mage most players can safely avoid.
