Game Guides
Our Roblox Be the Final Boss tier list ranks the best currently verified units for building a reliable castle defense. Be The Final Boss is a user-created defense experience available through the Roblox platform, developed by Apparently Champions. You summon minions, defend your castle from waves of heroes, improve a permanent Skill Tree, and unlock stronger weapons for your playable boss.
This July 2026 ranking covers six units whose names and basic roles can be confirmed through available gameplay footage and current guides. Update 1 added three more units, but they have been excluded until their names and abilities can be verified accurately.

A |
Imp Bomber, Grave Warlock |
|
B |
Bone Grunt, Necromancer |
This list focuses on general usefulness, deployment efficiency and how easily each unit fits into an early or mid-game defense. It does not rank units only by rarity. A rare unit may still be difficult to use when its Soul cost or Population requirement prevents you from completing the rest of your formation.
Iron Skeleton

Iron Skeleton is currently one of the safest front-line units to invest in. It fills the melee role more effectively than the tutorial-level Bone Grunt and gives your ranged units additional time to attack from behind.
A stable defense normally needs at least one unit that can hold the first contact point. Without that protection, Skeleton Archers, Bombers and other back-line units can be reached before dealing enough damage. Iron Skeleton therefore earns S Tier through reliability rather than flashy damage. Its value is especially noticeable when your previous runs failed because the front line collapsed too quickly.
Skeleton Archer

Skeleton Archer is the most dependable ranged unit among the currently confirmed roster. It attacks from behind the melee line, allowing it to continue dealing damage while Bone Grunt or Iron Skeleton absorbs incoming attacks.
Its simple role also makes it easy to include in almost any early formation. Players do not need a specialized setup to make Skeleton Archer useful: place a melee unit in front, position the Archer safely behind it, and improve Unit Damage when ordinary heroes begin surviving too long.
Imp Bomber

Imp Bomber provides the area coverage that a single-target formation lacks. It is most useful when groups of heroes arrive together and begin overwhelming melee units faster than your Archers can remove them.
The Bomber is not automatically better than every ranged unit. Its value depends on the wave. Skeleton Archer is more consistent, while Imp Bomber becomes more important when grouped enemies are the reason your defense fails. A balanced formation should usually include both ranged pressure and some form of group damage.
Grave Warlock

Grave Warlock is a later progression option that provides additional back-line damage. It is useful once your formation already has a stable front line and you can afford a more advanced summon without leaving important positions empty.
Its lower placement reflects efficiency rather than confirmed weak damage. Grave Warlock may become a strong choice on developed accounts, but newer players normally gain more immediate value from completing a basic melee, ranged and area-damage formation first.
Bone Grunt

Bone Grunt is the basic tutorial melee unit. It is useful at the beginning because it gives you an affordable front line while you learn how placement, Population and hero waves work.
The problem is that its role becomes replaceable. Once Iron Skeleton or another stronger melee option is available, Bone Grunt offers fewer reasons to remain in your main formation. Do not immediately discard it, though. A leveled or mutated Bone Grunt can still be more useful than an undeveloped replacement.
Necromancer

Necromancer is placed in B Tier because it is a later and more expensive progression target, not because it has been proven to have poor maximum potential. High-cost units can be awkward during early progression when Souls and Population are limited.
Saving for Necromancer while leaving the rest of your defense incomplete can make a run weaker. Build a dependable front line and ranged core first, then consider advanced units once your economy can support them.
A practical starter formation is:
|
Position |
Recommended Unit |
|
Front line |
Iron Skeleton |
|
Secondary melee |
Bone Grunt |
|
Ranged damage |
Skeleton Archer |
|
Area damage |
Imp Bomber |
|
Flex slot |
Grave Warlock |
Iron Skeleton absorbs the first attacks, while Skeleton Archer and Imp Bomber damage enemies from safer positions. Bone Grunt adds another body to the front, and Grave Warlock can be included after you have enough Population and Souls.
Your playable boss should intercept enemies that survive the minion line. If normal waves are breaking through, improve Population or Unit Damage. If minions handle ordinary heroes but you struggle against checkpoint bosses, investing in your weapon or boss damage may provide more progress.

Update 1 introduced Shiny, Cursed and Demonic mutations. Mutations improve a unit’s ATK and HP, meaning a mutated lower-tier unit may outperform an ordinary higher-tier one. Demonic is currently the strongest mutation, while Cursed Moon weather doubles the chance of obtaining mutated units from summons.
Because mutations do not change a unit’s basic battlefield role, you should still maintain a balanced formation. A powerful mutated Archer cannot fully replace a front-line unit, and a mutated melee unit does not solve the lack of area damage.
Iron Skeleton and Skeleton Archer are the best general investments because they form the most important part of a stable defense: a durable front line and safe ranged damage. Imp Bomber and Grave Warlock are strong additions once the core formation is established.
Bone Grunt is useful early but becomes replaceable, while Necromancer should be treated as a later investment rather than the first unit every player saves for. Since Be The Final Boss receives frequent updates, this ranking may change when the three Update 1 units are fully documented and tested.
