Hingga saat ini masih belum jelas apa penyebab kebakaran tersebut. Menurut warga, sebelum terjadinya kebakaran ada sosok wanita berbaju putih membawa lampu petromaks berjalan sendiri ke area losmen.
Namun dugaan tersebut disangkal oleh Nurul, mantan staf di losmen itu. Nurul yakin penyebab kebakaran losmen tersebut adalah upaya balas dendam seorang staf yang tak lama sebelum kejadian dipecat dengan tidak hormat.
