Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major problem in the Philippines as the country ranks fourth globally in terms of incidence based on the 2019 WHO Global Tuberculosis Report and fares lowest in terms of national performance compared with the ASEAN neighbors.Under-notification of TB cases remains a perennial problem that the Department of Health (DOH) aim to improve. Mandatory notification of TB is essential for routine surveillance and for determining the burden of disease in the country. It also provides data to detect outbreaks, and to plan, implement and evaluate healthcare programs.
The Comprehensive Tuberculosis Elimination Plan Act (Republic Act No. 10767, section 12) requires all public and private health centers, hospitals and facilities to observe the national protocol on TB management and to notify the DOH of all TB cases.
