The landscape of Clash Royale is a battlefield in constant flux. Every new season, every balance update reshuffles the meta, turning yesterday's champions into today's benchwarmers. Now, after the pivotal December 2025 balance adjustments, the hierarchy of Evolution Cards has been redefined once more.

Forget the outdated lists you've seen. This is your definitive, post-nerf guide to all 39 Evolutions, ranked from the weakest to the absolute meta-dictating best. Use this tier list not just to understand the current battlefield, but to make smart, long-term decisions about where to invest your hard-earned Evolution Shards.

Clash Royale Evolution Cards Ranking 2025

Before we dive into the rankings, let's clarify what each tier means in the context of the December 2025 meta.

S-Tier: These are the untouchable powerhouses. They are versatile, incredibly efficient, and form the backbone of the strongest decks. They define how the game is played.

Valkyrie, Witch, Furnace, Baby Dragon, Cannon, Wall Breakers

A-Tier: Excellent and competitive cards that can carry you to the top. They may not be as overwhelmingly dominant as S-tier, but they are consistently powerful choices.

B-Tier: Good cards with clear strengths, but they are either outperformed by higher-tier options or require specific decks/meta conditions to shine.

C-Tier: Cards that struggle to find a consistent role. They might be outclassed or have lost their edge due to recent changes.

D-Tier: Cards that are almost always a suboptimal choice. Using these Evolutions often puts you at a disadvantage, as they fail to provide enough value for their cost and Evolution slot.

S-Tier

These cards stand above all others. They define the offensive and defensive strategies of the current meta and are the top-priority investments for any serious player.

Zap

The December balance changes inadvertently crowned the Evolved Zap as the king. With Evolved Cannon's damage reduced, it can no longer instantly kill key threats like the Firecracker or Archers. Evolved Zap, for only 2 Elixir, still can. It is the single most efficient and crucial counter to the other S-tier monsters. It obliterates the Evolved Skeleton Army's General (a +1 Elixir trade), resets Inferno Dragons, and its dual-cast ability provides unmatched control. Its versatility for offense, defense, and spell-bait synergies is currently unmatched.

Skeleton Army

The "General" mechanic makes this Evolution uniquely oppressive. When protected behind a tank, the invincible, invisible General can spawn an endless stream of skeletons, creating nearly unstoppable pressure. It forces your opponent to have a direct counter (like Evolved Zap or Arrows) in hand at all times. Its versatility allows it to slot into Beatdown, Bait, and Control decks, making it a universal threat.

Skeleton Barrel

Why It's #3: This card has risen to become the premier win-condition Evolution. The double-barrel attack delivers devastating death damage and applies immense pressure. It excels in Bait archetypes, often synergizing with the Evolved Skeleton Army to overwhelm opponents' defenses. If your opponent lacks a building or a well-timed spell, a single connected Evolved Skeleton Barrel can decide the game.

Cannon

Even after nerfs, it’s still a top 10 evolution . It’s a staple in Hog, Log Bait, and Royal Hog Cycle decks, offering exceptional swarm clear and tower pressure. Its barrage of bombs is devastating in double/triple elixir, and it’s a reliable counter to Hog Rider and Royal Recruits.

Baby Dragon

Its presence in decks is hard to overstate. Every other match you play, you'll see this critter. Best Evo in the game last season. It's been nerfed a little, but as you can see, not enough to move it out of S-Tier.

A-Tier

These are powerhouse cards that form the core of top-tier competitive decks. Investing in them is always a safe and rewarding bet.

Card

Key Strength & Role

Royal Hogs

Their flying mechanic bypasses traditional ground-based defenses and buildings, making them extremely difficult and expensive to counter reliably.

Tesla

A premier defensive building. Its stun pulse is excellent against swarms and single-target units alike, and it hard-counters the popular Evolved Royal Hogs and Skeleton Barrel.

Royal Giant

The knockback from its stomp provides unexpected defensive value, interrupting support troops and often securing that one extra hit on the tower that wins the game.

Executioner

Although its close-range damage was reduced, its core value comes from the powerful knockback on every attack, allowing it to solo defend entire pushes.

Skeletons

For 1 Elixir, the potential to snowball into 8 skeletons offers insane cycle pressure and defensive value, fitting seamlessly into fast-paced decks.

Valkyrie

A second consecutive nerf to her tornado radius has significantly reduced her defensive dominance and tower-chipping ability. She remains solid but has fallen from the very top.

Witch

Crazy strong Evo. Nerfs didn't even touch it that much. Tons of healing through skeletons.

Wall Breakers

Overtuned beyond belief. Not kidding when we say that in order to get rid of these pesky skellies, you'll spend half of your deck.

Furnace

Strong against most deck types. It's so strong that you might expect some heavy nerfs, and even after that, you can expect to see it in the top 10.

B-Tier

These cards are strong but have clear conditions for their success. They excel in specific archetypes or matchups but aren't universally dominant.

Card

Key Strength & Role

Mortar

Has become a reliable win condition again, especially after the Cannon nerf. It pairs well with other supportive Evolutions for potent siege play.

Royal Ghost

Hit with a massive 22% damage nerf to its summoned spirits, its offensive pressure is now manageable. It's a good card but a shadow of its former, meta-warping self.

Giant Snowball

Strong Evo, versatile, great defense, and offense. No matter how you look at it, it's just a very good card overall. Works in most decks like wonder and the decks that rely on it are in meta right now.

Inferno Dragon

A high-risk, high-reward card. In the right matchup (e.g., against Golem), it's an instant win. Against cycle decks or reset cards, it can be a liability.

Royal Recruits

Despite the nerfs, it's returned to the meta primarily because everybody else got nerfed. A good card to Evo right now.

Mega Knight

Beatdown counterpick. Great defense in one lane. You can squeeze it in any deck, and the opponent will think twice before releasing their win condition at you.

Lumberjack

Good at what it does - applying pressure. The downside is that it's not good at anything else. Still a strong Evo.

Firecracker

Solid Evo. Has good versatility. It will likely get better, and there's a very small chance that it’ll go lower in rank.

C-Tier

Cards in this tier are average or have been sidelined by the meta. They can work in specific, often niche, strategies but are generally not recommended for your primary Evolution slot.

Musketeer & Knight: Both have been directly supplanted by their Hero card versions. Why run the Evolution when the Hero is vastly more powerful? This has crushed their usage rates.

Goblin Barrel: Suffers in a meta saturated with cheap spells like The Log and Barbarian Barrel.

Electro Dragon: All are viable only in one or two specific Beatdown decks (like Golem) and are too clunky or matchup-dependent for general use.

Ice Spirit: The double nerf (base freeze time reduction impacting its Evolution twice) made it a weak choice compared to other 1-Elixir cycle options.

Battle Ram: Fun off-meta pick. You should know what you're doing to use it well. If your opponent doesn't have a counter to it, it can deal some serious damage. The problem is, they usually do.

D-Tier

These Evolutions are considered the weakest. Their impact is minimal, they are often worse than their regular versions, and using them typically wastes a precious Evolution slot.

Dart Goblin: The drastic reduction of its poison cloud duration removed its unique defensive utility.

Wizard, Hunter, Barbarians: They are expensive, fragile to spells, and consistently outclassed by more efficient options.

Bats: Outshone entirely by the buffed Minions, which are more durable and reliable.

P.E.K.K.A: Too slow, expensive, and easily countered in a meta defined by cycle, bait, and control.

The Bottom Two: Goblin Drill and Goblin Giant occupy the lowest ranks. Both are so ineffective that their regular card versions are almost always the better play, making their Evolutions a complete waste of resources.

Conclusion

The December 2025 balance changes have successfully dethroned some long-standing tyrants (Evolved Baby Dragon, Valkyrie, Royal Ghost) and reshaped the meta's foundation. The path to victory now revolves around a new trinity of power~~!

For your resource planning, prioritize S-Tier and A-Tier cards. They offer the highest return on investment and will remain competitive through meta shifts. Be extremely cautious with any card in D-Tier, especially those whose regular versions are superior. What do you think of the new rankings? Is the Evolved Skeleton Army as frustrating to face as it is powerful to use?
