How the Umamusume: Pretty Derby Champions Meet Event Works

Each of the special race events in the Umamusume: Pretty Derby Champions Meeting, like the Libra Cup, Virgo Cup, and others, follows the same basic structure. Every race event runs for about 10 days and takes place under two different leagues, where you can earn rewards and climb to higher ranks. These races also have three rounds, and you must pass each round to qualify for the final stage to earn even more rewards.

To qualify in these races, you use attempts, and each attempt is a set of 5 races. Only your best attempt will decide if you move forward. You get free tickets from daily missions, giving you up to 4 attempts per day. If you want more attempts, extra ones cost 30 Carats each.

Umamusume: Pretty Derby Champions Meet Event Leagues

Umamusume: Pretty Derby Champions Meet Event Rounds

These race events are happens under three rounds as:

  • Round 1: Four tries each day (three free, one costing 30 Carats). Each try = five races. Win three or more, and you will move to Group A of Round 2. Win less than that, and you go to Group B. Zero wins knocks you out.

  • Round 2: Same setup as Round 1. Group A players need three wins to reach Final A; fewer drop you to Group B. Group B players need at least one win to reach Final B. Zero wins here also means elimination.

  • Final Round: One race decides it all. You must pick your team within 12 hours (before 10:00 a.m. UTC). If you don’t, the game uses your last Round 2 team.

Note that in Rounds 1 and 2, Umamusume moods are random, which changes their performance. For the Final, every racer’s mood is locked to Great.

Rewards You Can Get

There are multiple rewards coming from this event as well:

  • Carats: The main paid currency, handy for pulling new Umamusume or Support Cards.

  • Goddess Statues: Needed to boost an Umamusume’s potential.

  • Tickets: Special trainee or support card tickets that let you pick the one you want.

  • Support Points: These points help to level up the support cards.

  • Exclusive Titles: Just for show, but great for showing off.

The better you place, especially in the Graded League or Final Round Group A, the bigger the prize haul.

Preparing for the Champions Meeting

If you want some of the best tips to get ready and plan for this Umamusume: Pretty Derby Champions meeting event, just follow up with these strategies.

Understand the Race Conditions

Preparing for the Champions Meeting

Before jumping into the event, the first step is to know the race setup. Each Champions Meeting has a set track and conditions, like the Taurus Cup’s 2400m medium-distance turf race at Tokyo Racecourse (left turn, spring season, sunny, firm ground).

Details such as distance type, surface (turf or dirt), track direction, weather, and ground condition all play a role since they influence how your Umamusume performs and which skills actually trigger it. A smart way to prepare is to use Room Matches that mimic these conditions. Public lobbies give you a chance to test your team against strangers, while private lobbies let you fine-tune builds with friends.

Building Your Team

Choosing the right team matters just as much in the Umamusume: Pretty Derby Champions Meeting event. You’ll need three Veteran Umamusume per run, and balance is key. A common setup includes one main runner, or “carry,” who’s trained specifically for the race conditions and aims for first place.

Alongside that, you can bring a debuffer, who uses high Wit and specialized skills to disrupt opponents, and a support runner, who offers utility or covers a different running style to adapt during the race.

Running Styles

You can use different running styles to avoid overlap and increase adaptability. For example, in the Taurus Cup, you can team up with a Front Runner with an End Closer like Gold Ship and a debuffer like Nice Nature.

The running styles are going to be varied like this:

  • Front Runner: Leads early and maintains position. Strong in Speed and Power.

  • Pace Chasers: Stays mid-pack, surging in the middle. Balances Speed, Stamina, and Power.

  • Late Surger: Starts mid-pack, accelerates late. Prioritizes Power and Stamina.

  • End Closer: Begins at the back, overtakes in the final stretch. Needs high Stamina and Power (e.g., Gold Ship).

Running Styles

Picking the Right Characters

Who you bring to the Champions Meeting mostly comes down to how well they fit the race. You want their distance, surface, and running style to line up with the event. For the Taurus Cup (2400m Medium turf), some solid options stand out as:

  • Maruzensky is a go-to thanks to her strong finishing burst and great medium aptitude, which she developed when she trained with the right sparks.

  • Gold Ship is another favorite, perfect as an End Closer with her recovery skill at Potential 5, meaning she doesn’t need as much stamina as others.

  • Oguri Cap works as a reliable all-rounder, bringing high stats and flexibility for medium races.

  • Nice Nature makes for one of the best debuffers, especially when she’s got high Wit.

  • Taiki Shuttle can still shine if you pass on the “Shooting for Victory” skill, even if her Medium aptitude isn’t the best.

Quick tip: always look at their aptitude chart before locking your team. If possible, push for an S-rank in the race distance by inheriting Medium Sparks from both parents, as it makes a huge difference in performance.

Stat Priorities

Focus on these core stats during Career Mode training:

  • Speed: Determines top speed, critical for all running styles.

  • Stamina: Essential for Medium and Long races to maintain performance, especially against debuffers.

  • Power: Boosts acceleration and positioning, vital for navigating corners and overtaking.

  • Guts: Improves performance in the final stretch, especially for Late Surgers and End Closers.

  • Wit: Increases skill activation rate, crucial for debuffers (aim for 800+).

Note: Use the in-game Hints icon during training to prioritize stats based on upcoming race goals. Focus on rainbow training sessions (with multiple Support Card friends) for optimal stat gains.

Stat Priorities

Skill Selection

Skills can make or break a race. So you can prioritize on:

  • Gold Skills: Unique or high-impact skills like Maruzensky’s late-race acceleration or Gold Ship’s recovery skill.

  • Aptitude Skills: Boost performance for specific distances or surfaces (e.g., Medium Master for Taurus Cup).

  • Debuff Skills: Skills like Dominator (Nice Nature, Symboli Rudolf) or All Seeing Eyes reduce opponent performance.

  • Recovery Skills: Counter Stamina-draining debuffs in Medium or Long races.

  • Positioning Skills: Skills like Nimble Navigator help End Closers maneuver through the pack.

Make sure that you check the skill activation conditions before using them to ensure they align with your Umamusume’s running style. Wisely using skill points is also highly recommended, prioritizing gold skills and aptitude boosts.
